FMC Foret

Paper is one of the iconic products of our culture and can be produced using a wide variety of vegetable fibers. Its use in writing and packaging makes it an indispensable part of our lives.

Wood is the main material used in the manufacture of paper and card. The wood is made into a pulp, which is then put through various processes until reaches the different qualities of paper required.

FMC Foret shares current concerns for an environmentally responsible manufacturing process.

Hydrogen Peroxide is an alternative to the traditional manufacturing process, which uses chlorine, responsible for the formation of chlorinated hydrocarbons, a major water contaminant.

The paper industry uses several FMC Foret products in the different stages of paper manufacture.

  • Sodium sulfhydrate and Sodium sulfide are used in the preparation of Kraft pulp.
  • Sodium Bisulfite is used as an anti-chlorine agent after bleaching with hypochlorite.
  • Liquid Sodium Silicate has two main applications: an adhesive for corrugated cardboard and a stabilizer when bleaching with hydrogen peroxide.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide is used in bleaching pulps, waste paper and linters, the deinking process, effluent decoloring and in the production of chlorine free pulp (ECF/TCF).
  • Peracetic Acid (BIOPER/OxyPure range) is used as a starch modifier and disinfectant in paper manufacturing.
